Huawei Bags Cox Communications' Mobile Network Deal, Enters Final Round of Clearwire's WiMAX Tender

China's Huawei Technologies has secured a mobile network infrastructure supply deal from US cable TV service provider Cox Communications, The Wall Street Journal reported on March 26. Cox Communications is expected to launch its mobile phone service in the company's cable TV markets sometime later in 2009, and the Wall Street Journal report estimates the value of the deal to be less than US$100 million annually.

At the same time, Huawei has reportedly entered the final round for Clearwire's WiMAX network equipment tender. Clearwire plans to deploy a WiMAX network covering 120 million people by 2010, and the company is expected to select more than one equipment supplier for its network rollout project. Aside from Huawei, Motorola, Samsung Electronics, and Nokia Siemens Networks are reportedly numbered among the Clearwire tender finalists.
